Fulbright Student Grant

Fulbright Grants support graduate study/research in more than 100 foreign countries. Most grants are awarded for programs of study or research that require one academic year. Applicants must be U.S. citizens who will hold at least a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent prior to undertaking the grant and have a minimum 3.0 GPA. Fulbright Full Grants provide round-trip transportation, language or orientation courses (where appropriate), tuition, books, maintenance for one academic year, and limited health and accident insurance. Applicants from SDSU must adhere to the campus process which has a much earlier deadline than the national deadline.

The Fulbright Student Grant offers various programs such as:

  • Study/Research Grants
  • English Teaching Assistantships 
  • Fulbright-mtvU Award
  • Fulbright-National Geographic Digital Storytelling Fellowship
  • Fulbright Business Binational Internship to Mexico
  • Fulbright Graduate Degree Grants (earn a Master's or PhD abroad in select countries only)
  • Fulbright Beginning Professional Journalist Grant to Germany
  • Fulbright Indonesia Research, Science, & Technology (FIRST) Awards

- U.S. citizenship is required at the time of application
- Must have conferred bachelor's degree or equivalent before the start of the grant
- Applicants must be in good health
- Must have sufficient proficiency in teh written and spoken language of the host country sufficient to communicate with the people and to carry out the proposed study/research

While the application deadline is a few months away, it is important for students to start their applications now, as the application process is quite lengthy.  

Students interested in applying for the 2018-2019 Fulbright Grant, please keep the dates below in mind:

Applications for the 2018-2019 grant cycle will open on April 3, 2017

Information Sessions held on April 4, 5, 18, 25, 26; May 25; June 14; July 13

Deadline to have your drafts reviewed by the writing center (mandatory) - August 18, 2017
