Critical Language Scholarship

The U.S. Department of State sponsors the Critical Language Scholarship program, which offers fully-funded intensive summer language institutes overseas in thirteen less commonly-taught languages. Approximately 600 scholarships are awarded annually to American undergraduate, master's, and PhD students.

This scholarship covers all costs for an intensive summer language institute in one of thirteen critical foreign languages:

 

Beginning and above: Azerbaijani, Bangla/Bengali, Hindi, Indonesian, Korean, Punjabi, Swahili, Turkish, and Urdu

 

Advanced beginning and above: Arabic and Persian

 

Intermediate and above: Chinese, Japanese, and Russian

 

Class Levels: Sophomore, Junior, Senior, Graduate
